It's ice cream week! I'm a season ticket holder for Manchester City FC and take my teenage nephew. He likes to cook but is generally uncommunicative with everyone these days so I thought I'd try and engage him pre match yesterday with a bit of ice cream making. Honeycomb was his choice and wow what a good choice. Really this is essentially a vanilla ice cream with a bashed up crunchie but it is fantastic. I got the recipe from BBC Good Food off the internet. He enjoyed making it and was a lot better company at the match as a result.

Apple ice cream
Nigella Summer again. I've been given what feels like a shedful of apples and having made kilo upon kilo of chutney for Christmas I'm trying to think of innovative ways to use them up. My daughter went to a food festival last weekend and came back talking about the apple ice cream with salted caramel sauce she had tried. It sounded so good I thought I'd give it a go. And here we are. I think I'm yet to completely master the art of ice cream making but it's good nevertheless. In the pics here the salted caramel is shop bought (boo) with extra salt flakes from me.
